Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

THIS iS FOR thE KID IN YOU! And it's an ace youtube version! The chord version is beginner friendly and may not follow the Bing/Ella number. (By the way, my daughter was named for Ella Fitzgerald!)

RUDOLPH THE RED NOSE REINDEER

|Am D7 |Am D7 |

          Am          Bm          Am           G
You know Dasher, and Dancer, and Prancer, and Vixen

Am          Bm         Am          G
Comet, and Cupid, and Donner and Blitzen

Em          A7              Em      A7        D
But do you recall the most famous reindeer of all

 G                                                D
Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer had a very shiny nose

                                              G
And if you ever saw it you would even say it glows

G                                                     D
All of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names

                                                  G    G7
They never let poor Rudolph play in any reindeer games

  C               G           Am    D       G
Then one foggy Christmas eve Santa came to say

 D                        D#o7     Em        A7        D
Rudolph with your nose so bright, won't you guide my sleigh tonight

 G                                                        D
Then all the reindeer loved him as they shouted out with glee

                                                      G   G7
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer you'll go down in history

 G                                                D
Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer had a very shiny nose

                                               G
And if you ever saw it you would even say it glows

G                                                     D
All of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names

                                                  G    G7
They never let poor Rudolph play in any reindeer games

Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World

You gotta don't you. The sheet music is taken from Richard G's Ukulele Songbook - you have to check it out, it's a wonderful resource for songs. If you're a fan of the Judy Garland version, you may not like this. No lush leading chords and some of the words have been changed - I think Israel may have forgotten the song and just went stuff it, I don't know the words here, so I'll just make em up. Same with the chords, I reckon he said to himself, can't work out that passing modulation so, bugger it, I'll just play G!

The [G] colours of the rainbow so [C] pretty in the sky

I see [F] friends shaking [C] hands saying [F] how do you [C]do
[F] They're really [C] saying [Dm7] I love [G7] you
I hear [C] babies [Em] cry and I [F] watch them [C] grow

The Importance of Music

This is a podcast of a lecture by Dr Karl Paulnack, the Boston Conservatory's Director. It pretty much sums up why I do what I do, but I've never heard it articulated so eloquently. If you have a spare 20mins, have a listen. Enjoy!

TRANSLATION
This is to you
O sage blossom
A cherished sweetheart
That attracts the mind

While you go seeking
Among the beauties of the land
Right here I remain
Waiting for your return

Glance quickly this way
At these inviting eyes
These unforgettable eyes
That makes my heart tremble

Love is bound fast
With an eight strand lei
There is nothing to separate
You from me forever

This story is told for you
O sage blossom
A cherished sweetheart
That attracts the mind

EVERYTHING IS FREE NOW

Here's a live version of the dynamic duo doing their stuff!

EVERYTHING IS FREE – GILLIAN WELCH
Capo 5
Just repeat Am C G D throughout

Everything is free (Am)now
That's what they (C)say
Everything I ever (G)done
Gonna give it (D)away.
Someone hit the big (Am)score
They figured it (C)out
They were gonna do it any (G)way
Even if doesn't (D)pay.

I can get a tip (Am)jar
Gas up the (C)car
Try to make a little (G)change
Down at the (D)bar.
Or I can get a straight (Am)job
I've done it be(C)fore
Never minded working (G)hard
It's who I'm working (D)for.

Everything is free (Am)now
That's what they (C)say
Everything I ever (G)done
Gotta give it (D)away.
Someone hit the big (Am)score
They figured it (C)out
They were gonna do it any (G)way
Even if doesn't (D)pay.

Every day I wake (Am)up
Humming a (C)song
But I don't need to run a (G)round
I just stay (D)home.
Sing a little love (Am)song
My love and (C)myself
If there's something that you want to (G)hear
You can sing it your(D)self.

'Cause everything is free (Am) now
That's what I (C) said
No one's got to listen (G)to
The words in my (D) head.
Someone hit the big (Am)score
And I figured it (C) out
That I'm gonna do it any (G)way
Even if doesn't (D)pay.

I am weary

A gorgeous old hymn made famous by the O Brother Where Art Thou film (click for youtube clip) and soundtrack. (By the way, click on the blue words and they take you somewhere else!) As sung by Raymond at the last Chicks Concert and Gympie Music Muster.

I AM WEARY (Let me rest)
D                G         D
Kiss me mother, Kiss your Darlin'
D                      A7
Lay my head upon your breast
             D     G      D
Throw your loving arms around me
      D     A7      D
I am weary let me rest

           A7                D
Seems the light is swiftly fading
           D                 A7
Brighter scenes they do now show
       G              D
I am standing by the river
         D      A7      D
Angels wait to take me home

          D    G         D
Kiss me mother kiss your darlin'
         D           A7
See the pain upon my brow

Fate has doomed my future now.

D            A7                    D
Through the years you've always loved me
        D                A7

In a deep  and lonely grave

D               G        D
Kiss me mother kiss your darlin
